sorry, thanks, and hiatus

I’m really really glad so many people had so much fun when we got married!! We had a blast and loved seeing everyone. THANKS!!!

The new wife and I are now off to see monkeys and sloths and millions of butterflies in Costa Rica. Won’t be back to writing probably until 7.8.07. Maybe if we get a really good toucan picture or some pineapples with straws stuck in them full of booze we can post them up here.

Have fun while we’re gone!

It’s a really interesting moment in American political discourse, now that candidates have discovered social networking as part of the normal and expected campaign trail.

at least it’s not Satan

You are The Devil

Materiality. Material Force. Material temptation; sometimes obsession

The Devil is often a great card for business success; hard work and ambition.

Perhaps the most misunderstood of all the major arcana, the Devil is not really "Satan" at all, but Pan the half-goat nature god and/or Dionysius. These are gods of pleasure and abandon, of wild behavior and unbridled desires. This is a card about ambitions; it is also synonymous with temptation and addiction. On the flip side, however, the card can be a warning to someone who is too restrained, someone who never allows themselves to get passionate or messy or wild - or ambitious. This, too, is a form of enslavement. As a person, the Devil can stand for a man of money or erotic power, aggressive, controlling, or just persuasive. This is not to say a bad man, but certainly a powerful man who is hard to resist. The important thing is to remember that any chain is freely worn. In most cases, you are enslaved only because you allow it.

Love advice from the 56K era

We do not intend for this report to be an abbreviated sex manual. Its purpose is to introduce you to some basic principles and philosophies of the sexual fulfillment of single women, and to encourage you to learn as much as you can about a single woman’s sexual needs, wants, and desires.

Wow. One more thing that reminds me of Internet ‘98. How to Make Love To A Single Woman. . . which is, now that I think about it, advice I’ll have absolutely no use for here in a couple weeks.

Tamarindo, Costa Rica (Guanacaste) : weather

an old-school whiner

“Although I am familiar with printer hardware and networking protocols, installation on my LaserJet 6MP and PC running Windows XP Pro was difficult. Firstly, the print server did not fit into the available space in the comparment housing the Centronics port, so I had to leave the right rear cover off in order to close the side cover (which protects the circuit boards and memory). Secondly, the Quick Install Guide and Users Manual were out-of-date and useless as regards software installation. After an hour on the phone with a supervisor at Technical Support I finally got the device working properly. That said, it works extremely well on both my hard-wired and wireless networks.”

This sounds like something I would have composed in PINE and sent to a listserv about a 9600b modem, or posted to comp.dcom.modems from ‘tin’. I think it’s supposed to be a “review” of a very hip USB webcam though.

Message in a Bottle - Bottled Water - Luxury Water - Mineral Water

This is one of those well-researched pieces of writing that makes you gape with astonishment one or two times per paragraph. If I did pull-quotes for the whole thing, I’d only end up NOT pasting about 1/5 of the whole text. I first encountered this Charles Fishman guy on last June 28th’s All Things Considered

in Fiji, a state-of-the-art factory spins out more than a million bottles a day of the hippest bottled water on the U.S. market today, while more than half the people in Fiji do not have safe, reliable drinking water. Which means it is easier for the typical American in Beverly Hills or Baltimore to get a drink of safe, pure, refreshing Fiji water than it is for most people in Fiji.

And for a chaser, this 1976 French TV Spot for Perrier, who started it all.
