Still no luck trying to get DSL without purchasing phone service…

It’s always seemed unreasonable to me to pay the phone company for complete
telephone service in order to get a DSL line. I decided to try Qwest’s
customer service chat, to see if I could get some answers. DAMMIT!

This is a transcript, of me, playing dumb, asking good questions.

Thank you for using Qwest.com. A Sales and Service Consultant will be with you in a moment. Currently, your estimated wait time is 0 minutes and 10 seconds.
Welcome to the Qwest.com live chat service. My name and agent ID is Jared (2112). May I please have your name?
Billy: Billy
Jared (2112): Hello Billy, how may I help you?
Billy: I want to know, do I have to pay for a phone number to get your DLS internet service?
Jared (2112): Yes, DSL is a feature added to a phone line.

Billy: but I already have the wires in my house just dont have a phone number.
Billy: cant you turn on the DLS internet and not turn on the phone number because I only need to have a cell phone
Jared (2112): You must have a working phone line with a phone number to have DSL.
Billy: how does the number make the DLS work?
Jared (2112): I am sorry, I am unsure of the mechanics. However, I know that at this time you must have a working phone line to have DSL.
Billy: it just seems wrong to pay for a home telephone service that I will never even plugh in a telephone too only the DLS cable modem
Jared (2112): DSL is not ran through a cable modem, it is ran through your home phone line.
Billy: its a simular box though isnt it? some kind of modem device?
Jared (2112): Yes, we do provide an Actiontec 1524 modem that plugs into your phone line.
Billy: if i dont plug in a phone to the wire why should I have to pay for a phone number that will never ring or get used?
Jared (2112): Because the DSL signal runs on the active phone line.
Billy: its internet though that is going on the wire right? not telephone calls?
Jared (2112): Correct.
Billy: so if there arent any telephone calls going on the wire, wouldn’t I bee a fool to want to pay for telephone SERVICE???
Jared (2112): But you have must have an active phone line to use DSL. Whether or not you choose to use the phone or not is up to you. I am sorry but at this time this is the only option.
Billy: so you are telling me that the phone company willg et rich off stupod customers like me trying to pay for something that is not even a used service?

Jared (2112): No, I am telling you that in order to use DSL, you must have an active phone line.
Billy: why do you have a woman’s face?

Jared (2112): The picture that you see is not me.
Billy: it is not you?
Billy: can I speak with youy another time about this matter Jason?
Billy: my boss is coming and internet is for businness only
Jared (2112): Sure, feel free to use the click to chat option at anytime.
